The righteous are sorry for their sins but the wicked make excuses and try to justify theirs. Out of their mouths cometh nothing of substance; for every vain thing cometh from their heart, continually seeking to justify condemnation.
You are puffed up with pride, O haughty man, who knoweth not truth and despised counsel. Thou saith, I am excellent before God. But thy wisdom is foolishness and the strife and jealousy are a detriment to thy soul. Why boast in thyself? Is thy glory more excellent than God’s? Is not all the glory his? Have you not read that, Pride goeth before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall (Proverbs 16:18)? It is also written that, Understanding is a wellspring of life unto him that hath it: but the instructions of fools is folly. The heart of the wise teacheth his mouth, and added learning to his lips (Proverbs 16:22 & 23). There is a way that seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death (Proverbs 16:25). Humble yourselves before God and he shall lift you up (James 4:10).
