If you love me, keep my commandments (John 14:15).
Thou shall love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, with all thy soul, with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment (Mark 12:30).
How fitting it is for the first commandment to be of such magnitude. People often think about themselves, and they seldom think about God. Everyone wants this and that, too busy about everything else, some relevant and necessary, some useless, selfish, wasteful, and irrelevant. We strive for love, and that’s not a bad thing, when done the right way, under the guidance of God. But when do we sit back and think about our God and his needs? Do we not know that our God needs love too? When last did you love my God, your God? When did you show your God love? When last did you tell him you love him and actually mean it? What have you done so he knows that you love him? Saying it is one thing; but showing it, well, that’s another thing. God appreciates the latter; he does not need fake love. He needs commitment, tried and true love, sincere efforts from all of his children. He knows who are genuine and who are not.
It does not cost us anything to love one another and our God. And yet we find it so difficult to do the things that are godly. We seek all that this world would offer us, even death. We run from God, like ungrateful fools, seeking our own glory. But there is no glory if we run from God. And the world has deceived you if you truly believe that. But how will we know that if we don’t seek God? God deprive fools wisdom; for what good would it do them? If you rather love your vanities and you glorify them, then you are not wise and lack the wisdom of God.
If we embark on a ruthless, heartless, loveless way of living — not showing each other and our God love — when judgement day comes God will not be so loving to us. So while you embark on the ” important” things in life, remember to love each other, and your God, my God. Please remember! Follow the word of God; keep his commandments, and your demonstration and devotion of love for our God will be justified by the grace of God, given to you, as you dwell in the glory of righteousness. Let the glory of God abide with you now, and forevermore. Live in the wisdom of God, his truth. Praise our loving God; for our God is good to us all. Blessed be his holy name.
O love the LORD, all his saints: for the LORD preserveth the faithful, and plentifully rewarded the proud doer (Psalm 31:23).
