Good Guys Finish First

Do not neglect to do good and to share what you have, for such sacrifices are pleasing to God. Hebrew 13:16 (ESV)

Good always prevails over evil. And it is always the way to go, despite what many may say. You must have heard the popular saying, “Good guys finish last.” But is there any validity in that? To most who are blinded and are still running away from truth, that may make sense. But if you are living in the light it is easy to see all the flaws in that.

At times, things may seem that way, but let us not get too far extended with ourselves. If what we do is in the flesh and of this world, then this is temporary; and the illusion will vanish before our eyes. Doing anything to get ahead should not be the catalyst that motivates us.

But many who are first will be last, and many who are last will be first. Matthew 19:30 (NIV)

Contary to that which can eventually lead to self-destruction, doing good is the much better choice. If good guys finish last, so be it. But what is last here on earth shall be first on judgement day. In the sight of God, doing good will always be first. And if that means finishing last in this world, I will take that in a hurry.

I would rather seek humility than find favors among men who despised the Lord.

And maybe, here on earth that might be the case. But who cares about that when we have eternity to consider. Sacrificing oneself for the things of this world is never going to be enough for anyone’s soul. So keep things in prospective, and ask yourself — do I want to be first for the wrong things or the right things?

And whatever you do, if God is not involved leave it alone. For my God is not to be mocked, and to be joked with. Fear the Lord your God and your days of tomorrow will be joyful, and sweet.
