Don’t dampen your light so that someone else’s may shine. You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden (Matthew 5:14 KJV).

We’re all children of the Most High God, and by his wonderful hands made in his image, likeness, and glory. And because of that we all have that light inside us — some brighter than others, glowing with the glory of God. And yet some are dim like dusty shades casting shadows in the dark. But the fault lies with us; there’s no one to blame when our light is desperately in need of a little oil to keep that fire burning with brightness, that luminous intensity, the glory of God, that brings out the best in us.

… Let your light shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father who is in heaven (Matthew 5:16 KJV).

We’re all created with qualities surpassing anything and everything, and that can’t be ignored. And although there are times when we live lost and unfulfilled, the Lord find ways to keep us going. His intended hope is that we will come to him freely, and joyfully. And by doing so, that light inside us will shine brightly, the way it was meant to be.

Recently I heard two men speaking, and given what I know about them — I don’t know if it was my fortune, a blessing in disguise hearing two unbelievers congratulating themselves, basking in their glory. “Great minds think alike,” one said to the other as they laughed celebrating their profound discovery. Just imagine the expression on my face. What could be more bold than that? If nothing else represents boldness, that certainly does. Even an angry, roaring lion could not compete with them.

These men choose to deny the Lord’s teachings. But they choose not to deny themselves his worthiness. Even these scoffers recognized the power of Almighty God. How ironic is that? To most, we would say, “Only foolishness comes from fools.” But on that day I was taken back, stunned into momentary silence, doubting for a minute what had just transpired. And suddenly, it dawned on me that everyone has embedded greatness that needs to come alive, because we are all God’s creations, even the unbelievers. And there is hope for unbelievers, too. The Lord can make believers of them. Because our God is merciful, forgiving, and just.

As believers, it is the will of God that we not shun away those who are less inclined to our Lord’s teachings. But we must be merciful, tolerant and wise, and leave room for those who may seek our help, and decline self-righteousness, at all cost. Realizing that, we are servants of the Lord, seeking righteousness to become blameless in his sight.

And although that light in some may be dim, and cold — with enough fire from God that light can burn brightly again. And should you ever feel that momentary dimness, like your light is not burning with full intensity — let the Lord in your life, and let the Holy Spirit bare witness to God, as your light shines brightly again.

The Lord is merciful; the Lord is good; and he is Almighty, powerful, and great! Glory to God in the Most High, who made the heavens, and the earth. And he created us all in his image and likeness. That’s how great you are. Now depart from the ways of darkness, and live like children of lights. Should you uphold the integrity of God, my God will remember you in the last days. Let the great High God that I serve be magnify and bless in the heavens and on earth. Forever and ever, let him be blessed. Amen
