THE DAY OF THE LORD

Shall not the day of the LORD be darkness, and not light? even very dark, and no brightness in it (Amos 5:20)?

The day of the LORD is a day of judgment, not a day of peace, but a day of weeping and mourning. Be not in haste, and cry out not for it to come quickly; for who shall be able to stand the power and the glory of the LORD? Rejoice, O you, in your hearts, you righteous. And flee from your sins, O you wicked. For the LORD will come with vengeance, and not with peace, to root out the corrupt things, and to judge the land. Woe be unto these nations that forsake God. Woe be unto them that run after evil and wickedness, and gather up riches for vanity, and robbery as a means of rejoicing. Woe be unto them that walk crocked and call it straight, that lie in wait for vengeance, and sheweth no mercy in the land of the living. Woe be unto them who rob the innocent of hope, and bring sorrows in the hearts of the poor. Woe be unto them that lift up their voices before me, whose hearts are evil, and whose souls are rotten in my sight: they honour not my words, nor run after me with cleans hands. Woe be unto them that forsake God for riches: they delight in the scums of the earth, and rejoice in corruption. Woe be unto these nations that magnify vain things before my eyes, and forsake their maker: they lift up the created, and not the Creator. They shall not escape the judgment of God.
