Smart People, Really, Really,Really, Smart People

We are all clever people and that’s the ugly truth. Then who are doing all the foolish things everywhere we turn? Maybe, these are smart people who are silently doing dumb, foolish things. But whatever we do, we shouldn’t regard anyone as a fool, or foolish, just a smart person, really, really, really, smart person, making a fool of oneself, and doing all these wonderfully dumb things. After all — we’re too smart to make such assumption. And please, don’t make that mistake and call anybody a fool, just regard him or her as someone who makes mistakes, really foolish ones, and keep making them because they are the smart things to do.

But what about ” foolish superstition?” Why does it have to be foolish, if nobody does anything foolish? Could we then say smart superstition? “It doesn’t sound so good after all.” I thought you might say that. But why is “Everybody plays a fool sometimes” any better? Remember, nobody is foolish. We are just a bunch of smart people abusing the words fool and foolish. And all we are doing are making mistakes — smart ones, really smart ones, because that’s what smart people do.
